Back in the 1950s, the Hawaiian island of Oahu became the birthplace of big-wave surfing and M.Nii, a now defunct mom-and-pop tailoring shop, became the go-to place for board shorts that could actually handle the rigors of punishing waves (they were specially made to the specs of local pro riders). Brought back to life by veteran surfers Randy Hild and John Moore (one of GQ's best new menswear designers), M.Nii trunks are recreated with obsessive detail to mimic the originals-they're made with heavy cotton twill and finished with a button-fly front, heavy-duty stitching and pockets in all the right places. The Waxer gets its name from the '60s, when surfers started making their own wax and asked M.Nii to design pockets to accommodate it.
